So EA shut down
EA Link and launched their new
EA Store which uses the EA Downloader.
According to EvilAvatar Member Cutter99, that any purchases made through the store only allows for an initial download for up to 6 months. If a cusomter wants to play the game afterwards again they must pay an additional $6 that extends the peroid to 2 years.
So pretty much its another EA attempt to nickel and dime you. I'm not too sure if they think that they can compete with STEAM like this, but I sure as well won't buy anything from them. I'm now even considering boycotting their boxed games, with the exception of Madden.
I'm still waiting to find out how Cutter99 knows this. Will update when I find out...so if you're going to buy something off the EA Store, be careful.

When it came time to go find EA Link, it turns out it doesn't exist. It redirects you to "EA Store." I hunted for hours for any link to the new "EA Downloader" - even poured over the FAQs/helpfiles. Just to try, I went right up to the end of the "Buy Online" option for BF2142 - and you can see it slips a nasty 6$ extra for "extended downloading access" or whatever. I hammered their customer service - no answers.
In the end, I got a copy of EA Downloader from some foreign site (yay google,) despite my EA account still showing that I "owned" BF2142 - it showed a "purchase date" of Sept 17, 2007. So - in six months will I no longer be able to download this if I need to? It loads EA downloader now when i launch the program, so will it not let me even launch the game after six months?! Who knows, EA hasn't said anything to me.
