Is it possible to play this game 4 player co-op on computers that do not have an internet connection?? Bascially, pure offline LAN.

I'm guessing no, since steam games connect to their servers to make sure the game isn't cracked. I'm pretty sure, anyway. I'd be surprised if you could.

Well as for the steam games connecting to the server to make sure the game isn't cracked, you can go to offline mode in Steam, after you login and start up the game with your connection active, then you can play without an internet connection but you can't connect to outside servers of course.

Or something like that. I've done it before for sure with CSS and TF2 so I would think that it works the same with L4D. If all else fails, Google is thy friend.

Don't see why you wouldn't be able to, you can do it with all of Valves other games. Just make sure all the clients are in offline mode and everything is updated. Don't know if the matchmaking lobby would work, but connecting by IP should.

under your friends list where you can join friend rooms and such, you will be able to see people playing LAN games, even if those people arent on your friends list.
