| | | Bioshock 2 Has Uber-Lame SecuROM DRM & Five Install Cap Have these people not yet learned we don't like being told when and where and how many times we can install a game we've paid for? Sheesh... Quote: |
Bioshock 2 will come both as a boxed retail product and a for-pay digital download if that's more to your taste. Looking at the game's page on Steam reveals something disappointing for those of us against invasive DRM: the game will utilize SecuROM and comes with a five-machine activation limit.
| While it is not totally clear yet if the Steam version will have the 5 install activation limit, it should still be noted that the retail box buyers are getting rammed in the keester. Especially considering this is a multi-player game that some people might play for years if the online play is (ya right) good.
I'm still buying it for the single-player, but I will certainly be using Steam to hopefully circumvent the activation limit.

Looks like the only thing set in stone is SecuROM for a disc check (for retail games), but nothing on the Steam version yet.

| | | Re: Bioshock 2 Has Uber-Lame SecuROM DRM & Five Install Cap Do you actually need to install the client in order to create an offline profile? If so, it is dumb. |

| | | Re: Bioshock 2 Has Uber-Lame SecuROM DRM & Five Install Cap Somewhat, but the thread title paints a picture of despair. So far all we know that it will be using Games for Windows Live (a minor hassle), and only SecuROM for a disc check. So far no mention of activation limit (the original steam page had 15 activations).
