Apple passes Wal-Mart, now #1 music retailer in US

With Apple's iTunes sales recently passing that of Walmart, and becoming the leader in doing so, I wonder what new products they will continue to release in relation to their audio hardware and software. Check it Out

I for one would like to see an increase in their own audio hardware. Apple limits the volume of the speakers on the MacBook Pro while in OS X. However, when you boot into Windows, the speaker volume is much more louder and intense.

They just need to open up iTunes to other media players besides the iPod. As much as I like iPods, with this kind of marketshare, it is incumbent upon Apple to do the right thing and allow a free flow of content between software and hardware. I mean, it will never happen, but we can wish for it, right?

Yeah. If they open up what devices play the music, I'm sure they'll take over the market even more. Then again, though, their strategy is working because if they have this much of a market share, that means that the majority of the people that buy the music are also iPod and iPhone owners.

yeah, I think that's called corporate branding.

At this point, the iPod and all it's variations are still the most popular player out there, so to me it doesn't make sense to open it up yet.

it would be game-set-match if they opened up iTunes to all players...that's my opinion anyway.

but you have to love that all the big record labels are no longer in a power position. Apple told them to F*** off with their DRM, and they have for the most part had to listen. So Apple does do good when they can.
