| | | Apple Apologizes for 'Rocky' MobileMe Launch Quote:
On Wednesday, Apple sent an email to all MobileMe customers apologizing for the "rocky" launch of the online push service. The company added that the service is now fully functional.
Apple also added that it would refrain from the term "push" until automatic synchronization is nearly instantaneous.
Though scheduled to go live Friday morning to jibe with the iPhone 3G's launch, MobileMe's debut was plagued by the service's unavailability, slow performance, and unpredictable behavior such as unexpected logouts. Push syncing was not available for contacts and calendar entries for most of the first day, as well.
| Something cool they are doing is extending contracts for free. Quote: |
The company will also be compensating customers with a free contract extension: "We want to apologize to our customers and thank them for their patience, so we are going to be extending all current MobileMe subscriptions by 30 days free of charge," said Apple's Bill Evans.

| | | god that cappuccino looks good. thanks a lot....
MobileMe is a cool application, it's going to take some time to work out the bugs. That's a shitload of syncing up to do.
I'm dying for freaking Microsoft to publish their mobile clients for Live Mesh so we can start doing similar things.

| | | I had to get you involved with apple in some way...
I agree, Microsoft needs to get the ball rolling on this. If mesh is still invite only, then I don't see why not release the Mobile and Apple clients for those of us (me thanks to coffee) who are now entrapped in this mesh.

| | | 30 days of free service for something that was semi-unresponsive for only a couple days is good stuff. No one, not even Apple, can anticipate how large their launches will be or how hammered their servers will become. With each new product they release and bring out, more and more people start showing up. When Leopard first came out, they had to upgrade all their servers and set up new servers to handle the load that it brought.
I'm surprised people would complain as harshly as they did. I think it's because they don't really understand what millions of people all over the world going to Apple's sites would do.
