I like the concept, but a tablet laptop would be better...something where you can close the lid. This might serve some function has a walking portable unit for businesses or warehouses...but I don't see much potential or reason for something this big or something from apple.

| Or Hospital... Such devices could become very valuable...
In small scale tablet implementations i've seen in healthcare, the biggest problem seams to be them being unable to take a beating... At least in healthcare, you need a device that can be dropped, or tossed around, or banged up against walls... because that shit is going to happen. I would imagine the same being true in other industrys...
If they can design one with a very strong screen protector which can be replaced, and which is very easy to grip it would probably eliminate most of the tablet related issues companys have...

| | | I agree with Tulkas, it looks very easy to break etc. I'd be pissed as hell if you got scratches on it soon after you buy it. I'd rather have a laptop instead, it's more useful i guess you could say. |

| | | tablets in fields like medical are extremely useful, but are usually ruggedized and very expensive, like Panasonic's toughbook tablet.
I think there can be consumer-based tablets, but like Craig said, a killer app is necessary to lure them in.
HP's media touchscreen PC is a good start, but is still a niche product.

| | | Well that guy said their new device would compete with rival devices...so i don't know if it it anything really new like an apple mac book touch, it's probably more an apple macbook tablet. That seems much more reasonable to me.
I also find it ironic that people complained about the price of the initial iPhone and that apple really did an awesome thing by lowering the price. I mean, for a phone like that, that's awesome. Most people pay more than that for other smartphones that really have half the capabilities.

but ya Tulkas, i have been trying to figure out what other 'rival' they could be talking about. something that competes with the Macbooks or the iPhone/iPods. I'm blank |

| | | well, you get the idea it's "new".
so that means what? what doesn't Apple offer?
Netbook. PDA (but that's covered by iPhone). tablet. UMPC.
I'd go UMPC, again, because it makes the most sense out of all those.

| | | If it's not really new, and there are rivals, I am betting it all on UMPC and Tablet. We know for a while now apple is due for new notebooks, and either of these (or both) make sense. I just don't know if Apple considers their iPhone as almost a UMPC (which it shouldn't) or the air (again which it shouldn't). The UMPC would fit the between iPhone and laptop descriptions, but I don't know if apple should really get into that market yet. I don't really see their platform or business model as a reason for getting it.
