I updated to it.

One of the most notable features I found fixed that the above doesn't mention is color profiles and iTunes. iTunes was probably the only application that did not look good if you used a custom color profile. The boxes around everything would have a standard color to them and wouldn't fit the color profile. It made iTunes look like crap. This update fixes that so everything looks beautiful again.

I also upgraded since it had so many Air specific updates. Everything's been fine since the upgrade and I have even been testing out MobileMe for a week or so now and it's pretty neat.

they need to fix their dang freaking wireless utility. The one issue that we contently battle with that they've known about since 10.5 came out. *sigh*

if it works.. that's great! but if ..suddenly... you connect to wireless - oh! no IP address! okay, lets renew the lease... still no IP address? but i'm connected! renew the lease again! 169 IP? what the heck? okay.. lets try this again. turn off wireless, turn back on, manually connect to wireless AP. connected! awesome! what the heck?! no IP address and the renew lease button is greyed out!? okay, we'll do manual IP. apply the changes. Go back to DHCP automatic... apply.. AHHH I can renew my lease now!... NO FREAKING IP ADDRESS?!?! restart the computer. manually connect. WHAT THE FREAKING HECK?!?! renew the lease... YES!! YES!! it works!!!

// next time you turn it on

GIVE ME MY FREAKING IP ADDRESS. STOP CHANGING my 802.x settings!!! I ENABLED IT. LEAVE IT ENABLED. AUGH!! I need to take a break!

// leave for 15 mintues, come back...

YES! I HAVE AN IP ADDRESS!! i have no idea WHY, but i have one!

-- and so on and so fourth... Have had to deal with this countless times for a very long time now. 10.4 had similar problems as well, but not as extreme as this.

HIGHLY annoying. and the people who have the Mac's are bewildered because there isn't a fix for it. they just have to deal with it - but it will work... just only when the Mac wants to.

It would be a happy day when we don't have to deal with that crap! happy day

Interesting.

I use wireless on several OS X notebooks. These notebooks have been through all the Tiger versions and Leopard up to 10.5.5 and I’ve yet to have a single problem with wireless.

If you’re having trouble getting it working, maybe try booting with that cmd+opt+p+r command to reset the PRAM? It might help.

It's weird. it doesnt happen with all laptops that we've had come through here... but enough that we know all the different ways to get it so that wireless will actually pull an IP address.

i'm goina have to test that out on the next one we get that is having that problem .. never though resetting the pram would help with this, but heck, i'd be willing to try most anything at this point. Resetting the pram doesn't screw with any saved settings and such right?

It will reset some settings. I don’t remember them off the top of my head, but they are minor things. You’ll have to re-set your font smoothing, and maybe some other stuff. Google around for resetting the PRAM and I’m sure one of them will tell you what it resets. I just know everytime I do it, there’s only a few things that need re-set.

I’m not saying it will fix the problem, but I do know that resetting the PRAM solves a lot of problems overall.

Good to now - just let our main Mac guy know about the 10.5.5 update as he wasn't aware of it. I'll have to see if he knows about clearing the PRAM as well...!

Very well could be a handy little problem solver.
