Apple Tech Support

You know, I've read really bad posts on forums and hearsay from others about the Apple Tech Support, but I'm going to have to disagree. I just got off the phone with them.

I was calling because I purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan when I got my laptop, and I didn't know you needed to register and "activate" it, so it's been sitting in my closet still wrapped in shrinkwrap. I had a problem registering the ACPP online, so I called. I got a representative within 5 seconds of being connected. It took about 10-13 min. for him to get all my information, verify it, and activate my protection plan.

I asked him a few basic questions after, and he transferred me to the "MacBook Pro" technical support which happened to be a girl with a sexy voice in New Mexico. She was polite, very nice, kept me interested, and did everything for me. She registered me for an appointment at a local Apple Store. When i insisted she shouldn't go through all the trouble and that I will just call them and set the appointment up myself, she said don't worry about it. So, she did everything for me, and wrote down my situation and told me I basically needed to just go in at my scheduled time, and they should basically just replace the stuff. To add to all of that, she was telling me more stuff I could ask for to have them do or replace, even just for the hell of it. Her name was "Erica" and she was helpful

one of the most impressive things about Apple is their customer service in the stores. the genius bar guys and gals really do try their best to make things right.

i'm willing to pay a little more for this type of treatment.

I agree Craig. It certainly helps having the stores. I kinda realized they are really the only computer manufactures that have enough local stores of their own that you can bring the computer to and get help.

Also, a friend of mine said the guys at Best Buy where they now sell Apple products should be knowledge and possibly able to help.

some are and some aren't at best buy. if you have an apple store anywhere near you, go there. otherwise learn online at the apple fansites and purchase online or at best buy once you're sure what you want.

The Genius Bar is full of a bunch of nubhats that screwed me over today.

I went in for a couple of problems:
1. Cord shielding seperating from power brick
2. Screen wobble
3. Battery

I have the AppleCare Protection Plan as mentioned above. They replaced my power brick somewhat (I had to keep the plug part), and they replaced my battery. Thats about $210 + about $12 for taxes = roughly $222 and that's all cool and fine.

What really pisses me off, is that I paid $350 dollars for a protection plan, and they won't fix my hinges for my screen problem because of a little "nick" in the back. It was ridiculous. The "kid" also tried telling me the frame of the computer was a little messed up by the optical driver, which is on the bottom part. The damage there is obvious, but it's more me putting in a tool to open the optical drive cause it got closed shut. I should have takin it to Apple originally, but whatever.

I will post pictures of that little "nick" he said was the real indicator and reason. I'm going to try another apple store and try sending it in, maybe I will get luck somewhere.
