| | | Apple & AT&T Piss Off The FCC Over Google Voice FCC Takes On Apple And AT&T Over Google Voice Rejection
Click that link and you can read the separet letters sent out to AT&T, Apple, and Google by the FCC. They seem intent on busting balls here, and frankly I'm ok with that. |

When the government starts to selectively enforce things like this, (and, of course, NOT enforce it on others), it becomes impossible for all other businesses to know what and what not to create. This stifles business AND choice for consumers.

| | | Agreed. Government meddling isn't the answer. Consumers who really want the feature will pick a different product and when Apple/ATT lose business they will eventually support the feature. The problem is people are instant-gratification minded these days and basically want the government to regulate business to give them what they want, which is silly.

| | | This is the government trying to "make things fair". It goes against free trade. If the customers really want something, they let the company know, threaten to change to a competitor, and follow through.
Edit: Say Company X makes boutique gaming PCs and wants Best Buy to sell them in their stores. Should the government get involved if Best Buy says no?

Open your mind here guys, I know it is difficult...
The FFC/Government is 100% correct here...
If I buy an expensive communications device AND I pay an inflated price for service for this device, then should I not be able to use it as I see fit???
The device (iPhone) itself is without question one of the most innovative communication devices to have hit the market and yet it is completed locked down by Apple and AT&T and why? They already sold the device and made the bucks and they have you locked in to a two year agreement.
In my mind this smacks of having your cake and eating it.
First of all this exclusivity deal has pissed me off for the longest, whilst Apple position themselves to bleed the cellular industry dry on the operator side they also continue to do so on the end user side with the App store and have the gall to tell me what I can and cannot have installed on MY device by controlling all the App vendors.
And let me remind you that Apple were nearly finished as a company before the arrival of the iPhone. This device has single handedly re-invented the company and inspired people to look at other Apple devices such as the Mac.
It's win win for apple and AT&T with the iPhone and its not right. As a consumer you should have the right to choose your device AND your network and there should be fairer competitive rules.
The Sprints and T-Mobile's of this world are suffering greatly and whilst I agree that its business, AT&T have been dismantled once before for operating the exact same tactics.
If you are going to screw me on arguably the most expensive contract in the industry, please don't again shaft me by restricting what I can do with my device after I bought it, because you and your buddies want to squeeze the last drop of juice out of this fruit! |

| | | It's the company's product, and it's up to them to decide what or what not to do with it. If you have a problem, then don't buy it. When people don't buy a product, the company will be forced to changed, or go out of business. If you don't like it, go find someone else, or get an iTouch.

secondly, what ondigiman just posted is the gist of my thoughts. ATT has great power with the iPhone/Apple arrangement and should (according to Peter Parker's uncle) use it wisely. And frankly, it is more incumbent upon Apple to feel this way too.
remember that this isn't an issue of hardware and exclusive contracts with the government. they want to be sure that open air is being treated that way. like it or not, cell phones are becoming mobile computers. the same way the Comcast and Time Warner are required to not inhibit your experiences online is in play here. |
