DCon DesertShield=LAG

Was playing Dcon tonight on my laptop, which runs BF2 on low pretty well with 1GB ram. I loaded up Dcon, went to Gazala and everything played just fine on a 64 man server almost full. Then it went to El Alamein and things were still a little choppy but bearable enough to play. But as soon as it hit DesertShield....LAAAAGGG like no other. My FPS was 85, but my Hard Drive activity was nonstop. I figure it's just lack of RAM on such a large map, but I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same.

I haven't played much other maps besides those 3, as the recent "home server" I found is a rotation of those 3. I played Inshallah Valley, and it was good. Somewhat choppy like the others but not to the point where I almost couldn't move.

I experience this on most of the maps... Cept, my FPS gets on the down low too. But Lost Village (I think...) doesnt... Dunno why though

This is also why I dont play Chinese maps in regular BF2

If you exceed your RAM, the game will start using your swap file. The swap file is located on your harddrive (typically the Windows drive). This causes a lot of harddrive activity and slowdowns. Hopefully your game is installed on another harddrive. Also, as Teck said, lower your textures in game to lower the RAM usage.

I heard that one of the problems was they used some BF2 Beta models/textures with like a billion polygons or something like that and they should only have like 10 million... dunno... The next release should be much better
