April 2007 DirectX update + Bf2142=CTD

Last night I found out Microsoft decided to update DirectX. So of course I ran over and got.

I tried BF 2142 got in-game for only about 10-15 sec and then BAM!!!!

System Reboot!!!!!

Happened again and again.

I'm not sure if any one else experienced this but, for the time being I would recommend you avoid this update until it can be verified that this is not the problem.

First of all I couldn't do a rollback as I'm using Win2k.

Win2k > Windows XP

Second, I fixed the problem.

It WAS DirectX that caused it, but I managed to get the redist
from Oct. Surprisingly it allowed me to downgrade. So now I'm good.


Just another day in my life.

Oh lol, I assumed you meant there was a dx10 update and you were using vista.

I was wondering if anyone w/ XP tried the DX update if so how did it go??

Had a CTD switching maps once, but I don't know if it's related.

Also if anyone else got the same problem here's the "update" I used to fix it

It's the Oct redist.

After going back I see that there's a few newer redist. I'll try those and tell ya'll (yeah, I'm from Texas)if they work and maybe test some different things.

p.s. RMAing my VGA card 'cus I get severe artifacts unless I underclock so I might be out of commision for a while.

Jan '07 DX works good.

RMA should be here in about 2 days, but it's being cross-shipped.

I've been using February's since... February. I haven't had any issues.
