Greetings,

First off, I'll apologize for.. 'jacking this thread', however since this specific error is already on subject, I figure it's easiest if I just post here.

Basically, my problem is that I'm getting the same error message, sort of.

When I only launch the game, I'm getting this error message, like a windows error when something isn't responding. My computer does fall into the right zone of spec to run this game, so that's not the problem.

I tried re-installing, and maybe fixing this won't be as simple as moving a map file, as it's not a specific map that's 'causing the error, simply launching the game, thanks in advanced for any help.

First off, welcome to strafeRight, slash!

Okay, now that we got that out of the way, let's troubleshoot.

1) Is it a legit copy of the game? Meaning, did you actually buy it or just download it for free?

2) Did you buy the game at a store or from Steam?

3) I know you said your computer meets/exceeds the spec requirement, but what kind of GPU (nVidia, ATi) and CPU (Intel, AMD) do you have? Also, are you running recent drivers for them?

4) Have you tried running the game in safe mode?

5) "iw3sp.exe" Error is a generic error when the game crashes, are you able to see the console to view what the specific error is?

Hopefully if you can get a little more information I might be able to help you fix the problem.

Hey, I have pretty much the same problem. I get this error "iw3sp.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I realise this is a generic crash, but it happens with both SP and MP versions of the game, and also once i've reinstalled. Seeing as its a similar error i'll follow your questions from the post above.

1) Is it a legit copy of the game? Meaning, did you actually buy it or just download it for free? Legit ofc.

2) Did you buy the game at a store or from Steam? Purchased from Steam

3) I know you said your computer meets/exceeds the spec requirement, but what kind of GPU (nVidia, ATi) and CPU (Intel, AMD) do you have? Also, are you running recent drivers for them? Exceeds minimum specification, fully up to date drivers. Nvidia gpu and AMD cpu.

4) Have you tried running the game in safe mode? Yes, same error

5) "iw3sp.exe" Error is a generic error when the game crashes, are you able to see the console to view what the specific error is? I could, how would i view the console?

Also i'll say that the first time I started the game it loaded fine through the intro movies and into the options screen. I changed the resolution from 800x600 up to 1280x1024 and also bumped up the refresh rate from 60Hz to 75 to match my desktop settings. Since then I just get continuous crashes. Safe mode doesn't seem to fix it, I wonder if there is a way I can reset the settings externally? Bear in mind i've already uninstalled and redownloaded the game.

Would really appreciate some help on this, otherwise its £30 down the drain

Ok as is always the case, I solved the issue 5 minutes after posting, having spent two days trying to find a solution.

I renamed call of duty 4\miles\mssmp3.asi to call of duty 4\miles\mssmp3.bak

Simple file extention change seems to have solved the problem, hope this can be of help to others!

LOL I hate when that happens. You post asking for help and you find the solution before anyone replies

Great job though, as Craig said, this will probably help others with that same error.

I too am having the a similar problem as slash and weserman - i.e. getting a "iw3sp.exe is not working" error when loading the game. I tried changing the extension of the mssmp3.asi file but that didn't work unfortunately. As for the answers to the standard questions....

- Legit copy, bought from a store
- I have a comp that exceeds specs fully up to date drivers, Nvidia 8800 GT, Intel Quad Core, Vista 32bit.
- Have tried running the game in safe mode but same error
- Console view details are as below...

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: iw3sp.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 473cceb0
Fault Module Name: atklumdisp.dll
Fault Module Version: 7.14.10.303
Fault Module Timestamp: 4715a759
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0000de45
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 5129
Additional Information 1: 8d13
Additional Information 2: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311
Additional Information 3: 8d13
Additional Information 4: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311

I've been trying to figure this out for a couple of weeks now so any help would be much appreciated.
