Exclamation CoD4 "intall option" problem...

Hey Guys another problem in paradise:

I recently downloaded CoD4 but there seems to be a problem. Every time I try to click the option "install", the window automatically disappears. I've read a couple of threads of how to fix "Iw3sp" but, this error (Iw3sp) appears when I click a file specifically named Iw3sp, the error does not appear when I open the file CoD4 in the rsrc folder.

When I click the file CoD4 in the rsrc folder, its start to run. First thing that I get the is activision disclamer, then the game options appears, in there, it says install, i click it and !!! poof !!! the windows disappear. This problem doesn't seem to afect the other options, i click support it works, i click extras it work, i click install and nothing, as i said, disappears.

Any help with this will be much appreciated....

I would try deleting every cod4 file on your comp and redownloading. unless you pirated it then shame on you and go buy a copy so you know it will work

there are only a couple of places I know of to "download" this game: Steam and Direct2Drive. Steam puts it into a game list and is ready to play, you shouldn't have to install anything, and I'm not sure about D2D, although if it's similar to EA's old download manager, it also configures it for you. I would check the D2D site for support if that's where you received it.

you can update us with more information about your install issue and we can try to help.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem you are describing, and I have Windows Vista Ultimate, 32-bit. If you've figured out what was wrong, please post what worked!

I purchased my copy at regular retail price through Direct2Drive yesterday. D2D does have the ability to install the file for you-- and I'm still having the problem. I then go into the download directory for D2D and tried running the setup.exe file as administrator, and in Windows XP compatibility mode. The same problem keeps happening.

I also tried installing the setup.exe file in safe mode, but I get the error message saying that Windows Installer is not accessible in safe mode.

This seems to be a Vista issue, but D2D does not have any information in their support documentation, and microsoft's help documents also do not cover this problem.

Why are you asking this here? Doesn't COD have their own forums somewhere, or Direct2Drive have their own support services?

See if you can get a refund, and just get it over Steam or in disc form.

* If you have multiple drives capable of reading the disc then try installing from your other drive(s)
*

* ***NOTE: The following is unsupported by Activision.***

We have found the following to help the game install.

* Download Nero DriveSpeed from here. This freeware utility from Nero will allow you to slow your drive speed down, in increments, all the way to 2X. Try setting it to 8X. Some users may have to choose other settings to get optimal results. Your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM must be ATAPI/IDE. SCSI is not supported.

If you receive an ASPI related error message when running Nero DriveSpeed, you may have to update your ASPI layer.
Instructions to check and update your ASPI layer

* Set your CD-ROM drive or IDE channels for the CD-ROM to run in PIO mode 1 or a lower setting then it currently is at through BIOS. The exact steps for doing this may differ from motherboard to motherboard. You will need to check with your hardware or system manufacturer for more information on this topic.

* Zone Alarm has also been known cause some issues with the installer. If you currently have Zone Alarm installed it is recommended that you uninstall the program, install the game and then you can re-install Zone Alarm on your system.

*
* Windows Defender and Microsoft Office 2007 have been known to cause errors with the installer. These include errors referencing "msvcr80.dll" and "mpShHook.dll." If you currently have either program installed, it is recommended that you uninstall the program, install the game and then you can re-install Windows Defender and/or Microsoft Office 2007 on your system. If you do not want to uninstall these programs you can try installing or re-installing Microsoft .Net 2.0. You can get it here. Installing .Net 2.0 has been known to fix this issue without having to uninstall Microsoft Office or Defender.

* If the game previously worked then it's more than likely that you have a damaged CD/DVD. You can contact us via phone or through the web to arrange for a replacement.
