Are you using the gmail web client on the iPhone, or native email with IMAP now?
If native, how does it work with gmail's 'folder' system? Does it throw gmail's "labels" into Folders?
For those of you using the StrafeRight Gmail powered email, it brings me great pleasure to let you know that Google has finally rolled out IMAP support.
Here's a link on the topic @ Google:
Obviously this makes me happy because the iPhone worked with Gmail, it just didn't work 100% the way it was supposed to. Well, now it will...and then some! If you own an iPhone, here's a video Google created that shows you how to easily setup IMAP on your device. What's the difference between IMAP and POP?
Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client(s). This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email).
In addition, IMAP provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given time.
Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP avoids this through its two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients and your web Gmail.
If you're trying to decide between using POP and using IMAP with your Gmail account, we recommend IMAP.
Anyway, they're rolling out IMAP right now so if you follow their instructions on enabling it in your settings tab.
Here is a link that explains how to get StrafeRight Email on your mobile phone.
And if you're not using the StrafeRight Google powered email, shoot me a Private Message and I'll set one up for you.

@ Coffee,
No I've been using the safari browser as I would on a PC. The Gmail client worked, but did not sync up with Gmail due to the lack of control POP has. With IMAP it will be just like a Blackberry exchange
yeah, the synching is great, i'm just wondering what gmail looks like on a regular email client.
IMAP is active...read my first post if you've got a mobile device or want to Sync your SR Email with Outlook, ect
And OMG its nice on the iPwn!
IMAP owns. I've been using it for many hundreds of years now. I never use POP. IMAP ftw! But really, I've been using IMAP for at least 7+ years now. I can understand why it took Google as long as it did to get IMAP support. I'm sure they developed a brand new server just for it so it can handle the labels and other things like a regular IMAP server would.
looks good, dope, thanks for the screenie
dropped my gmail into Windows Mail (Vista), looks pretty much the same as Dope's picture above.
easy to set up, and since I have pretty much all my emails forwarded to a single Gmail account, I can track them all there.
of course, I confuse the hell out of people when I reply to one email from another account, but screw em.
