Spam & Bots

Obviously we are still getting a fair amount of these pests.
Until I can improve the captcha or equivalent, I'm making all new user accounts moderated, Just in the short term.
As usual any of you already with moderator access can approve accounts, which is handy with the different time zones and all that but I'll check it frequently and review it again in a few days.

We may be upgrading to the latest version of Vbulletin at some point as well, hopefully that will have better tools for the job.

The way to go may be random questions asked during the signup that a bot can't know
silly things like, What colour is the sky or basic maths questions, I've seen that on forums and it appears to work well.
Another approach could be the one used at fazed.net where new users can't post for 24 hours, this seems to screw up the bots and spammers. The downside of course is that it could discourage new user signups, and at the end of the day new people are important to the longevity of a forum/community.
