What do YOU want from StrafeRight? Lightbulb

    Folks, I want your input.

As we move forward into a new and exciting period for the website, or more accurately the community, We would like to know what you would like from StrafeRight.

I have put forward some potential ideas for additions and features for the site, We will reveal more of that in the near future as and when they are ready. I won't mention them here because I would like your ideas first unclouded by any of my suggestions.

Whats missing from Sr? Anything you dislike? Comments? Ideas?

Please post your thoughts here, or indeed PM me if you'd rather.

From my limited time amongst you It's obviously a good community, Hopefully we can build on that to make it bigger better and a great place to be, with fewer bot registrations grrr.

You lot will always have a voice in the decision making process. So please use it. ( providing you are agreeing with me in all matters )

It was our Counterstrike:Source servers that was a great part of why a lot of people came to sR and became members. I won't get into the why's and hows of their going away, but I think there would be significant interest in bringing one back. Probably a 24/7 Office server.

I will comment on why our last attempt at a CS:S server failed. ~IMHO~ it didn't work because we'd create the server, get it populated, then change it, lose players, get some back, change it again, and continue until no one was interested in bothering. I still play 24/7 Office servers, as do a lot of current and former sR members. We still enjoy it... it's just not as much fun without the great sR community.

As a former admin, I can say with certainty that we had such a success because of that community. We all took part in keeping the servers free of hackers, spammers, porn, racism, harassment, etc. We ensured it was a safe, moderately clean, friendly place that people would feel comfortable even letting their kids play on (CoffeeShark and Sleepy come to mind).

So, maybe that could be something to look into. I know it was sR's 24/7 Office server that brought myself and Mr. vega here.

I agree with Denny. The CS: S servers are what brought me here, whether it was Assault or Office. I don't play anymore because those same people I used to play with just about every day don't play any more either.

I was awful at the game, and I mean terrible. I had just started playing in '06. It wasn't the game, it was the people that I played with that kept me coming back. I mean that's the one game that just about everyone on here has, and if they don't it's very inexpensive to buy, and whenever there's a sale, its always reduced price.

We heed that backbone there, the one thing that everyone has in common, then we can branch off from there, I think.

I won't say CS:S specifically, but we do need more emphasis on the gaming side of the community.

There are lots of issues with that, mostly the number of diff games and diff platforms that people are using.

But a few anchor games, with specific community game times that everyone knows (Fridays/8pmEST CS:S) might help to strengthen the gaming side of the community.

Yeah, it certainly wasn't the forum that brought me here. It rarely is. It was what was going on, and then forum became interesting later as an extension.

Need to get people to know each other (i.e. playing games together) before they care about socializing

Re: What do YOU want from StrafeRight?

Game servers were the first thing I suggested to the powers that be.
I think a "gaming" site needs that focal point to both attract new people in and bond them into a community. Aint nothing better than having a laugh with friends of an evening.

So yes , game servers are a must i think, even if i have to dip into my own meager pocket to get it going.
As to what game(s) where they are hosted and whatnot we can thrash out later. My concern about CS:S is that its very much in its advanced years and may not get the same attraction as it used to. I'm by no means ruling it out, anyhoo the details as i say we can sort later as and when the need arises.

One thing that will make or break a server is good quality admin'ing. You've all been around, you know what its like when you get power hungry mini hitlers on a server who act like dicks just because they have rcon access, banning all and sundry cos they have a higher K/D ratio than them...
Oops looks like i've went off on one a bit there...

    Back to your scheduled programming....

agreed on beefing up the gaming focus for this...being a gaming site and all

i wont contest that the previous anchor, CS:S, was an effective recruiting tool (it brought me here), but it is showing its age and we would be better served finding a solid, newer, and popular multiplayer title to begin building an sR core around with a dedicated server

Well depending on the hosting package we can get, nothing to prevent us running more than one game, so an old classic and a current title isn't impossible.
