Steam transfer to new comp.

Im going to be selling my 9300 which steam along with hl2 and css are installed on. Is there a way that i could get this on my new computer without buying it again? I dont have the cds because i just moved but I DO have the cd product key.

I thought everyone knew that CD-Keys are tied to Steam Accounts, not the computer they are installed on.

I thought that my last post would have given you enough of a clue to figure out that all you have to do is reinstall steam and log into your account on the new computer and the games will still be there.

Of course you'll have to re-download/install everything -- I just got done doing this toward the end of last week and everything works fine (I have two accounts - one I got with the CD's and one I origionally bought online when HL2 first came out). Only thing I didn't enjoy doing was re-entering all my favorite servers (since I lost them all).. and of course the waiting for close to 20 gig's of stuff to download (or something like that)

or just copy over the .gcf files from your first computer to your second. that way, you only have to update a small number of updates

*Wait for it to download*

So I've been thinking about reformatting for a long time, and one of my main gripes is having to redownload all the steam crap.

If I burn all the .gcf files (and probably the maps folder and some config stuff) to a DVD, I could skip most of the updates when I reinstall steam after the reformat, right?
