Help me, I'm an idiot

Alright, so here's the problem. A couple of weeks ago I go startup CS so I can be cannon fodder for everyone's enjoyment, and about two minutes into the game it freezes up on me. I had to shut down the game and restart. Same thing happened.

Ok, so I thought that I was having server connection issues, so I go back in and decide to just play offline, again same thing.

So, I have no idea what the problem could be, or how to fix it, and I uninstalled the game and reinstalled, but its still freezing up shortly after starting the game. Any ideas? Could it be my settings?

well, it could be alot of things. first off, post your specs. 2nd, does it happen in any other games? if you get the same problem in other games? does it shut down your whole computer? try re-installing.

Most likely it's caused by your video drivers. If you haven't updated them in a while, I would try that first.

Do you get any game errors, or system errors?

If you install new drivers, do it the long way. Uninstall old ones, reboot. Install new ones, reboot.

dave, does this happen "in-game" on the menu, or actually in a server? i was having this problem too, where the whole game would just freeze (in a server) and sound would skip over and over. i updated my video drivers, as tyrant said, and also lowered some video settings. i turned out that in my display driver i had a couple of settings very high. if nothing works, try a reinstall and delete the whole counter-strike: source folder.

Trama, that sounds exactly like whats happening to me. As far as the video drivers go though, I'm supposedly set up for automatic updates from HP's site, but I dont know if it really updates anything.

Ok, so until I can get around to updating the drivers, I lowered the aspect ratio to a normal screen instead of widescreen and its working fine.

Now for my next problem, can someone tell me how to not suck at the game

well quick reacions DO help a lot in this game, seeing how its a first person shooter

i'd say (this is what many others say and i tried it and its helped me out some) to shoot a gun at the wall, and see how the bullets move away from your crosshairs and remember that. then apply it to when you shoot so you're actually hitting what you're aiming at, which can be very frustrating when you aim at them cleary and miss. and also remember the "gay" spots that people always complain about.

for example on cs_office, the exit sign in the front stairs outside ct spawn, people camp on top of that, so check that all the time. behind the doors at T spawn, and so on.

and most of all, never get mad at people trash talking you, or just because you're sucking. if you take it in stride, usually you can pull out of your dumpy feeling and get back into high spirits and have fun again
