| | | Yeah, Yankee's right about having to lower the resolution. I did it once on my current laptop (back when I only had 512 RAM, not even a gig) and what you get is a bearable drop in FPS, and some serious stuttering in the movie (in the case of a DVD). I don't reccommend it, but it can be done. Lower your game settings enough and you might even get half-decent performance. |

| | | Windows Vista will probably help with the game + other apps scenario. I heard that since Vista runs in 3D accelerated mode, it's supposed to naturally allow 3D windowed apps (games) with fewer/no problems.

| | | even with onboard dvd playback (something actually still relatively new), I'd think the main concern would be a dual core CPU. takes some muscle to just get the video stream, not necessarily to draw it to the screen. so with a multi core or dual cpu setup, and a decent graphic card, I'd think this would run futuristically smood (smood!) on vista... or xp
i can't wait for aero. like I don't have enough distractions at work

| | | I run 32" LCD, and most of the newer TVs have a "PC mode" where you can have your desktop as your main view with a picture in picture of any other source (In this case, component video from a DVD player.) So, I have either TV or a DVD in a small square in the lower right when CS is playing and just use the Windows key to tab out of the game to answer an IM, or whatever. As far as CS windowed, or any FPS windowed... I've never like the way it played that way... gotta go full screen for me. Just shop around for features when you look for TVs, ask to see the owners manual and see how user friendly it is when used as a monitor.

| | | Another Solution:
I just thought of this, for awhile, I did the multiple monitor thing in a different way. 32" LCD as main monitor, 20" LCD atop my tower on the left for TV/DVD/etc, and networked laptop off to the right for mail, IM, etc.
