help me please.

k so i just finally finished peicing together my new computer.the mother board i got is the asus m2r32 mvp that comes with 7.1 surround sound.
but the sound wont work... i will get alert sounds though but no others. such as music games etc. when i go into the control panel and fiddle around with the sound, it says there is no device connected. can anyone help me out here?

stupid question, you've installed the correct drivers, right? Try it again. Sometimes they show windows how to discover hardware

right click on My Computer, hit properties, open up the device manager and see if you have any problems. Almost unheard of these days, but you might have an IRQ Conflict.

Have you installed any chipset drivers there might be? Go to their website and download the newest drivers / updates

Possible answer, go into BIOS and enable onboard sound if it is disabled.
