Connectivity Issue

Hello I am having some problems finding servers on Counter Strike Source. I open the game and click Find Servers, anywhere from about 200-350 servers pop up and then I get disconnected from the internet, so naturally no more servers appear.

I am using a router right now and it seems that all the other computers connected to the router get disconnected as well, when I attempt to Find Servers.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks =D

Hi Mo,

What is the configuration of your LAN? Maybe we can hunt down what is killing off the connection. It almost sounds like Windows or some other firewall is nixing it

Hey Mo Welcome,

I know this is gonna sound kinda silly but if you could use paint or some other program and draw us a diagram of how your comptuters are connected to your router, and then what the router is connected to it would help out alot in trying to figure out what is going on.

Also if you can let us know what model and brand of router you have as well as the type of connection you have to the internet wether it is DSL or Cable.

We'll have more questions for ya once you can get us some of this info.

Hey Cybertex, ok I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for at all or if it maybe needs to be in more detail. I am also not sure if it is clear enough to see, this is my first time hosting an image so I am not very familiar with it.

Edit: I have an ADSL connection

Additional Edit: OK sorry it seems I may have screwed up my drawing pretty bad, here is an correction/addition that I need to make:
- The black plug in the drawing, that is connected to the router, is just plugged into a power bar, lol im retarded I know
- A white cord is coming out of the "WAN" plugin on the router and connecting to a "LAN" pluggin on box beside it which reads "3Com Home Connect, ADSL Modem Ethernet"
- This 3Com Home Connect Box is also, like the router, connected to a black plug which is plugged into the same power bar
- A white wire is coming out of the Ethernet Box and goes into the ceiling, to I have no idea where.

Sorry for being such an idiot and posting a crappy drawing, haha I suck....

No problem at all... I just wanted to get some idea of how your network was connected. What you just gave us is what Craig was asking for. You have just drawn your LAN (Local area network)

Are you sure that when this computer is disconnected from the internet when your listing the servers all the other systems go offline as well?

Try a test with some streaming audio or something from another one of the systems to see if when your CSS system goes offline the others do as well.

Also have you been able to play CSS before with out problem and this is a new issue or is this the first time you have tried to play?

If this is a new problem and everything has worked in the past have you installed any new software to your computer lately or done any updates?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to narrow down what may be causing your issue.

When I first installed CS Source I would get tons of servers, now I get a couple hundred. I can't really remember if I have installed any new software or updates, I don't think that I have.

My brother plays WoW on the computer right beside me and whenever I attempt to find servers or click the "refresh list" button, he gets disconnected from WoW and the internet alltogether for about 30 seconds.

I'm installing CS Source on the computer beside me right now and I will tell you weather or not I can find more servers using that computer.

hmmm def sounds like it could be a downed router as Gunt hinted at.

try a tracert to one of our server's IP and see what it says

To run tracert: Start -> Run -> type cmd (hit enter) -> type: tracert 209.40.96.71 (hit enter)

Ok I ran the tracert, what exactly am I looking for here?
Says tracing route 209.40.96.71 over a max of 30 hops.

Then its numbered 1-9 with 3 columbs of numbers with "ms" at the end and what looks like maybe web adresses with them?

Heh not really sure what im supposed to do with this
