updaterate, cmdrate, rate, what do i set?

what do i use to determine what my rate should be?

Someone told me my updaterate should match the server tic, and that my cmdrate should match my framerate.

First off, is that accurate? and second how do i know what my rate setting should be? is higher just better or is it more complicated than that?

If you are playing in a 66tic server, your rates will effectively be 66 66, you can't get/send more than the server will allow. If it's a 33tic they will be 33 33.

Hey man Thanks! I wondered why I was getting owned so bad. My KD improved massively. I was struggling to keep a 1:1, but now I've been pulling off 2:1 or better on most rounds.

The hitbox registration must have been my problem... I thought I just had terrible aim!

The actual rate of commands will also never exceed your framerate but setting it to 66 even if you get only 30 won't hurt you since it will still only send 30 commands per second. This doesn't cause choke unless you manage to get 66+ fps and your rate is too low or your connection can't sustain the rate.
