PC wont boot... FTL

This may not sound Counter strike related, but the only reason I care is because I can't play it. Remember that issue I was having with my computer's monitor shutting off, and the activity (like fans and hardware noise) stopping in the case. I thought it was a power surge problem. I guess it's my power supply causing this issue. Now when I try to boot up my PC, my monitor wont even flicker on. The hardware sounds weak.. I've even tried hooking up my monitor to the onboard video to see if it was my video card. Nothing happened. Could it be that my power supply just gave up on me? It can't be my pentium chip, it's relatively new.

Or maybe it is my video card, because I didn't remove it from the AGP slot.. if it's fux0red, could not removing it still cause an issue? I'm in school right now, more worried about this than I am about what the hell the assigment is.

If you guys don't have any ideas, I will be forced to bring it to a computer repair store.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any input.

I need CS:S!!!

Well is the pc actually not booting, or are you just not getting a signal to the monitor?

Mouse/and or keyboard light up? Does the hdd start spinning?

If not the power supply would be my first guess, but sometimes when a psu dies they can be nasty about it and take other components with them.

Do you know what kind of power supply you have? Did you build your computer or is it a prebuilt?

just borrow a digital volt meter from someone and stick it carefully into the backside of the mobo connector. then fire up and see what your voltages are. if you're getting like 9 volts on the 12 volt bus and 3 volts on the 5, etc etc (or zero!) then you know the ps is a foul

I repeat, be very careful. Also spend some time knowing which of the wires to probe

I actually have a Digital Multi Meter.. My major is DC/AC so I'm quite familiar with that kind of stuff.
I'll try that when I get home..
One thing though.. where do I connect the positive and where do I connect the negative leads?

If i can assume from the agp slot youve got a 20 pin atx connector for your motherboards power you can refer to this:

Simply checking voltages and continuity is a guarenteed way to miss a problem. The proper method is to do a volt drop test on the loaded circuit with the DVOM. There is no other way to ensure proper voltages in an operating circuit. A deteriorated wire or connection with a single strand remaining will show full voltage and continuity on a meter, but will drop to zero under load.
