Testing out new isp -- sR office ping?

So, my new isp is def alot faster than the crap taht comes hooked up in my college apptmt... but im having some wierd ping/choke spikes in sR office.

Im really not sure if this is due to sharing on wifi, or whether i need to experiment a little with rates......

Uhh i did a tracert im not sure if that helps, but if u guys could give me some advice or help, lemme know what u guys need to know.

Does this look right

a timeout is never good, and points to a problem with your ISP or one of the carriers between endpoints

what about between hops 5 and 6 where the ping goes from 17 to 200, then back to the 20's at hop 7. Is that okay or bad?

run at least 3 or 4 tracerts and get an average, see if your hop 5 and 6 are always jumpy.

wifi will always be less stellar than wired...and sharing is worse.

yes a 20 to 200 ms hop is not good news.

if you're going through college networks, then there's no telling how many routers it has to go through, not to mention filtering and/or monitoring firewalls. college networks are about as efficient as roads in lower manhattan. if one piece of equipment is at a focal point, then random load will max it out and force it to hold packets in memory or even drop them. that'll cause loss and backward traffic. then after a while it would be able to sh!t them all out and response would taper back down again

No its not college, its off campus.

okay so i always get a speed test on speakeasy of at least 3000kbit/400kbit even when the freshmen downstairs seem to be dling porn.

And ive noticed my choke and loss are a ton lower in game.... still get wierd lag occasionally.

Dex is havin me reset some ip config stuff, h/o

The hop that is timing out is just discarding/not responding to ICMP packets. It doesn't mean there is a problem.

Speakeasy means nothing. I hate when people call in saying they aren't getting all their bandwidth, and they are using speakeasy as their source. If you do a speakeasy test with a brand new 4core 4gb ram etc and a PII with 128mb on the same connection, the new PC will always have a better speed.
