mat_dxlevel 81

The other night Relly told me I could use dxlevel 81 for better performance without noticeable loss in pretty.

and its cal legal too so I was like what the hell.

Well, after adding it to my autoexec, my fps actually did increase a bit, yet the game, even on my own bot server, became unplayable and laggy, even by my standards. I tried sR and alot of other servers too, the game was borderline crashing, and it did once.

Is this a known problem, or?

Also, I tought mat_dxlevel 95 corresponded to direct x 9, yet when i check console (after removing level 81 from autoexec) the setting reads dxlevel 91. what is that?

Type mat_dxlevel 95 in console to set it back.

It wont go back to default on it's own.

It's very odd that your computer actually lags with a lower directX level.

Dunno why that would be unless you broked some other setting.

and Hunt answered this question in the other thread, You're CPU bottlenecked, not GPU bottlenecked. changing display settings won't do much. turn off ragdoll, thats about as much as you can do

Yah relly, but listen to this, I tried setting it back to 95 in console, and i got the same insanely laggy crap as dx 81....

I think I have built mankinds most bizarre and tempermental PC....

Try this bro.

Add -autoconfig to your cs:s set launch options, and restart steam. Then run source. If you still get that laggy BS, you can assure yourself it's not the settings. What autoconfig does is revert everything back to default settings, regardless of what's in your autoexec.

If you're still lagging, try a test at PC Pitstop: Free PC Diagnostics, computer help and Tuneups

It's a diagnostic test that will probably take you 20 minutes because of your connection LOL, but it's well worth it. It will tell you anything that is wrong by their standards.

Well cs doesnt exactly run "desirably" now as is.... so Im up to try minor tweaks to help any way I can. Considering this and mouse sensitivity are just about the only things Ive changed its not like Ive screwed with it enough to mess it up.
