| | | have you run hardware diagnostics, like a memory test? RAM can be very random.

| | I would run hardware diagnostics (like coffee suggested). If that doesn't work I would try a fresh windows install. It seems as though something is corrupted posssibly with that dll. I don't know much about them so I can't even begin to try and troubleshoot that issue. Since you have already re-installed steam I can only imagine something with windows is messed up. What's your computer specs and OS? Hopefully it isn't the one in your sig
Also thinking about it...what other applications are running in the background? I'm still going with the original thought that something is corrupted and hanging which makes CSS hang and when it becomes un-stuck it's to late. Specs would be super helpful though

| | | Also put your anti-virus and stuff back on. It's not a good idea to run without it no matter who you are. Granted they aren't perfect but they do make a difference. Don't give me the whole don't go to porn sites and you'll be fine crap. Anyway that's a totally different rant. Also I would try updating drivers to see if that helps.

| | Have you tried kicking it? If that doesn't work, I would seriously suggest when reinstalling everything, leave out the aimbot and hax programs

| i turn off all AV during gaming. You can run it when you're not gaming, but otherwise you'll be fine.

| | This happened to my laptop as well, also did it out of nowhere. I googled the datacache.dll thing....and the results were depressing. I found no help, no solutions, and lots of upset replies. I know changing my directX from 9 to 8 would -sometimes- help, but it was always random. It may be a corrupt file somewhere in windows, although it did it to my laptop even after reinstalling windows with a premade CD.

| | | I had problems with the error "hl2.exe has stopped working". Googled for that, and did everything they suggested. Shut off UAC if you're using Vista, and added admin functions. Eventually this stopped happening.
Also, make sure you manually update your steam client, sign out, sign in again and reupdate the steam client again...
My setup is working again, but I still get the error when I shut down any steam game. TF2, CSS or Half Life 2...

| | | Also you might try updating chipset drivers, or video drivers first if you havent already.
Do tf2 and other games work correctly?
Have you used the valve tool for verifying game file integrity?
