Oh, and Valve is not hurting for cash, I suddenly don't see the justification for $50 a game.

damn...thats a lot of CC's to get. remember when gabe's webmail got hacked and that german kid downloaded HL2 a year before it was done and released the build onto the net?

who's contracted to take care of valve's security?

My 5 year old cousin is actually in charge of security.....the little fella tries his hardest, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Lol.

VALVE would have to be really freaking stupid if they actually retain full credit card numbers on an internet connected database... oh wait.

I got my HL2 with cs:s free with my computer and I bought my other games with paypal. No credit card info on my account so I am safe...i think.

ya that sucks. I cant remember if I did paypal for steam or not. regardless, this is a huge huge problem. I almost shat myself this morning went I read that. Chalk it up to naiveness and lazyness. CC's could be infinitely more secure.

What I'd do is make the real account # hidden to everyone but you. Every time you make a purchase, it should be with a unique number that is only linked back to your real #. This is what a ShopSafe # does, and I generate and use a ShopSafe CC # almost religiously online now. Unfortunately I can't do anything about my old transactions

Amazon, Newegg, etc (All Major Retailers) save full credit card numbers for later use...
