uhh.. halp!?! why is my ping high?

yeah today (5:13pm jan. 8 philippines) i was like getting a really high ping... like 600+ from usually 250+....

i checked if there were someone downloading stuff or watching youtube ( rofl 512kbps connection shared between 5 computers XD) but no one was..

also i get around an average of 25 fps when i play and drops to around 20~ish but now i get like 12fps and less!

is the problem on my side? or on the server side? or maybe somewhere in the middle?

I have this specs

internet connection: 512kbps down 512kbps up
computer:
core2duo t5500 1.66ghz
2 gb RAM
nvidea Geforce Go 7600 w/256mb VRAM
windows vista
wireless connection (dlink DI-524)

also my rates are.
cl_cmdrate 20 (my cousin said it helps lol..)
cl_updrate 40
rate 7500

what should i fix these to? help!! I wanna play on assault server so bad

good luck im here in hawaii, it's 12:07 (Jan 8th) here, and that would make it about 6-8 Am depending on where in the US said admin is, you won't be getting any help anytime soon.

For your own good, get ur own internet connection that is more hood than showering in the rain.

yes and unfortunately the problem is yours, sR's counterstrike servers are notoriously fast, being that your in the phillipines ur ping is going to suck ANYWHERE in the United States (with the exception of Hawaii), I unfortunately have the same issue, and 250 is not a good ping btw, 0-100 is.

i know that but i get ave of 250ms ping and no one teleports around.... sigh.. i restarted everything.. the router, my laptop steam etc.....

i was really wondering why i'm just getting such a high ping when for the past month I've been playing almost everyday on the assault server.... *sighs*

we've had a few bugs in our assault server later, we are looking into it.

Try to do a traceroute to the Assault server. It should provided us with some more details about your PING problem.

Open a MsDOS windows terminal and type :

"tracert 208.100.45.123"

on an interesting side note though.. on the office server my ping is around 270-ish (yeah i know the assault server and office server are at different locations) so it means that it could be somwhere between assault server and mine?

Seems like Your internet maybe if u have cable it is just saturated

DSL is different from cable right?

anyway i tried again a few minutes ago and it still has 600+ ping

but what is weird is when i do a speed test (Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test) to chicago i get 270ms ping and 500-ish kbps down and around 250 ish kbps up.

is that causing a problem? sigh.... it will be maybe 2 months before we get an upgrade for the internet.... might be getting 1.5mbps.. ( i know its slow but its expensive here)

yes dsl blows cable rarely does
