Hey guys its Mothman. I'm over here in the Capital of Afghanistan. I haven't played CS:S for almost 3 months now and how do I miss it.
My journey overseas started off at Camp Shelby, MS with a few hour layover at Ft. Campbell, KY. Then I flew on to Leipzig, Germany and Kuwait City, Kuwait. Then the second to last leg of my flight landed me in Manas Air Base Kyrgstan on New Years Eve, was it ever cold. It was 65 degrees in Kuwait City when we took off and it was -35 degrees in Manas when we landed. I then experienced New Years Twice, both times in a C-17, I took a late night flight that took off a few minutes before midnight(traveling in a C-17 kinda sucks by the way, its cold) and I landed in Bagram Air Base sometime after midnight local time(it was a two hour flight but we were flying west/south west so we jumped time zones)
Immediately after I landed I drew my combat load of ammo and went on my first convoy to my FOB in the Kabul Area. Now since getting here I haven't left the wire too often, but each time I leave it is pretty interesting. Trying to negotiate through heavy traffic in the largest city in Afghanistan without ever stopping. Our convoy's seem to get in a lot of accidents since to get a driver's license in this country it doesn't recquire much more than a few dollars. I've been some interesting places, and I was in the chief of police's office of the afghan National Police's Counter Terrorism police last week. That was interesting. Being one of 2 american/coalition soldiers that were on that compound. It felt very weird and out of place.
Men(afghan's) around here literraly walk around holding each others hands and they will full on kiss each other on the lips in public too. Very strange, let me tell ya. I can't wait for this deployment to be over, even though I'm banking some serious cash(very little to spend on over here) This country is just a plain old shithole. The only attack that was even close to me was on January 12th or 14th(can't remember) It was over at the Serena Hotel in downtown Kabul. I actually heard the explosion and could see the cloud of smoke and dust rising a few blocks away from me. Just enough to remind me that I'm in a Combat zone. I hope all is well in the shed's(especially Assault) and before you know it, I will be back to do my lightning fast LBD rush's with a TMP
