| | | STEAM and CS:S Hey, I am new to this Counter Strike thing. I`ve been quite interested in playing some since i have a good connection, but I am getting confused with all this STEAM thing and so:
is STEAM the ONLY source to get CS:S ?
If I simply go to a shop and buy Half Life 2, will I be able to play CS:S with the fellow members of the forum ?? Will STEAM allow me to download CS:S without a problem ?
About halflife 2 itself, is it worth buying ? Good game ??
thanks for any hints and suggestions. |

Also, YES if you buy HL2 at the store, you will be able to play it with us.
I bought HL2 through Steam and have had no problems with my games. But, if you would like to have the actual disks, buy it at the store.
Oh and about HL2... its one of the best games ever.

| | | Hl2 and CSS are already awesome. Once the community mods start pouring out it'll be even better. Source is (imo) the best mod engine out right now, which is one of the biggest reasons to get HL2. Also, if you buy the physical product try and get the DVD version so you don't have 4 or 5 CDs to cycle through during the installation...that was sooo annoying.

| | | Half Life 2 is an awesome game. Get it.
IMHO, CS:S is worth $50 itself, which comes with the off-the-shelf boxed HL2 from the store. Yes. Get the DVD version if you can find it for like $55 or less, MUCH less hassle. Oh yeah, the bots are pretty good in CS:S. Sometimes they do stupid stuff. Like 3 of them go through the same single door in cs_office and get stuck.. but whatever.
My question is... will Steam let me install it on 2 comps? (1 desktop, 1 notebook). I know that I won't be able to play both at the same time, unfortunately, but I can I at least play it on my notebook without having to buy another copy?

| That's the point of Steam-being able to play the games you registered on your Steam account anywhere, on any computer. So if you want to play CSS on someone else's computer but they don't own it (not sure when/why this would happen) you could download Steam and use it to download CSS to the computer. Of course, you could only play it after logging onto your Steam account.

| | | Steam prices are a little bit high, and taking into account that I pay for ADSL based on the amount of traffic generated every month, I am not sure it is a good deal.
Just a small off-topic question: how powerful a computer must be to run HL2 smoothly ?? And CS:S ? the same ?
thanks for the help and comments |

| | | Got my HL2 dvd today...
Man, I didn't even start to play and Iam already hating this STEAM thing:
1. You can't open the game without being connected...
2. "The server is too busy to reply to your request" (or some sh** like that) when trying to actually start the game...
Do that happen to everybody ????? |

| yes, it will. steam makes it automatically available to you wherever you are when you sign onto your account as long as you have already purchased hl2 through your account or have already registered your retail-bought h2 with your account.
kumaiti, i would suggest you purchase hl2 through steam. it's painless. this is coming from a guy who bought hl2 from a store, and found getting the games through steam even more painless.
cheers
