CRYSIS Direct X 9?

Do you reckon the new game 'Crysis' be converted to Direct X 9? Cos I don't want to have to get Windows Vista.

I have no idea what you're trying to link me to in your post, but here's the "now old" news regarding the first game to support Direct X 10:

http://www.gamershell.com/news/27536.html

As to your question regarding DirectX 9, Windows Vista Premium "Ready" performance (meaning having access to all the goodies) requires at least a DirectX 9 compatble GPU, so even Microsoft knows it can't expect every Sally and Tom PC buyer to have the latest and greatest. You're fine. DirectX is primarily backward compatible, so you'll just be missing some of the "Cry-goodies" by not having a DX10 compatible card.

I'm hoping I'll be able to play with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9800 unless I get a new desktop configured before next year, so you're sitting in a far better position to play Crysis than I am.

Well, a bigger problem than the video card is this: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

If Microsoft refuses to port DirectX10 to Windows XP and earlier versions, you will have no choice but to upgrade to Vista. Like DanFortH said, the GPU will be a lot less important than being able to install DX10 on your current OS. The only one who can save you is the game company, if they write the game in a DX9 compatible way or write a DX9 compatibility layer (don't know why they would, considering that they chose to write the game in a version of DirectX unsupported on all previous versions of Windows).

Regards,

zakaluka2.

EDIT: fixed spelling
