First off this is not supposed to start a flame war nublets.
A petition has been started in response to the D3 announcements, in-game demos, and available media. The complaint is that the art style has strayed from D1 and D2 in a manner that isn't true to the series. Specifically people are complaining the new style is too similar to that of WoW. The primary complaints being it is not as dark or gothic an art style as its predecessors, or as "real" looking. The aforementioned statement primarily refers to the color pallete being used as well as the cell-shading esque level design, and lack of the use of bump mapping. The next complaint was of the character model and equipment design being oversized and brightly colored, giving it a more cartoonish style. Discuss.

We have to also look at it that this is 8 years in the making, so graphics quality has changed. So maybe this is what they really wanted (not quality per se, the look) back from D2. I like it so far. Then again it might change tommorrow.

| | | since I haven't played Diablo 2, I'm not going to comment specifically on the situation between it and Diablo 3, but in general I think that game developers need to refresh and bring new material to their series (and that can be done in many ways, from characters, to settings/style, even type of gameplay), it's the only way that the games industry will continue to grow and advance...
that being said, I understand that people truly love this series, and don't want to see it butchered and whatnot, but if they don't like it, they can always speak with their wallets and simply not buy it...I know that's going to be hard with all of the pre-orders, special editions, collector editions, etc and so forth, but if it's that much of a concern to a player, then they should just wait for the initial full reviews, or a demo, and then decide, but a petition in this type of thing probably won't amount to anything, and often times when developers listen to the whiners the game takes a turn for the worse, not the better...

Blizzard isn't going to change it. Look how complete the game is already. They're not just going to say "Well, there's a few thousand signatures of people that don't like it. Let's go back and redo everything."
Besides, that graphics aren't what make it Diablo.

Im looking at the back of my lod box right now and it says "Wickedly Enhanced Graphics For the first time wage your never ending quest for vengeance in stunning 800x600 resolution" lol. and graphics dont really matter to me anyway, I still like playing the original Diablo.
