EA's Gerhard Florin would like to see a single open gaming platform, rather than different consoles like we have now.

And I want Charlize Theron to feed me strawberries on my bed of dodo-bird feathers. This will happen sooner than what EA wants.

part of me agrees with this mindset...part of me doesn't. with no competition there is no innovation. if they could have a platform that still allowed for one guy to be better than the other (ala ATI/Nvidia) then it could be good.

Otherwise, it could turn into a vendor (not consumer) driven industry

Even if EA only had one platform to develop for they would still screw it up. EA's reputation just dropped some more with those idiotic comments.
