All the techy wannabe want the latest and greatest so they go out and buy a new PC with Vista to go along with their iPhone and XM radio's.
Its pretty easy to sell a lot of copies of Vista when you make it hard for anyone to have a choice when buying a new system. Where I work we have been trying to find a way to keep XP (due to compatibility issues with our software vendors) as we roll out new systems. If you choose the "Volume Licensing" route, you have to buy Vista licenses (at the price of Vista licenses) and then have MS downgrade them back to XP. Oh and btw, you can't upgrade to Vista later down the road with that license agreement either

.
We have been sticking with Dell just because they are one of the few that still offer XP as a system configuration option.
I have Vista Business (free through college) and XP dual booted on my PC, but I have rarely seen any benefit using Vista. It might just be the certain games I play, but every game I've tried has TERRIBLE performance. Old games like BF2 only get about half the fps that I get on XP (and my system is well above suggested Vista reqs). I'll be holding out until I have to use it for new games.
