 : 28 th | | | PS3 closing in on Wii sales in Japan Quote: |
PS3 - Image 1Enterbrain, a game magazine publishing firm in Japan, has noted that the Sony PlayStation 3 is now closing in on the Nintendo Wii, with the motion-sensing console outselling the bigger, more powerful machine by only 2 to 1 this October. That's a significant gap-crossing, if you compare the 6-to-1 lead that the Nintendo Wii enjoyed over the Sony PlayStation 3 in June.

Closing a 6 to 1 gap to a 2 to 1 is pretty big for sales

| | It's a big improvement for Sony, but it's still getting outsold 2-1 even after price breaks. Nintendo hasn't touched their pricing and are still destroying both xbox and ps3.
Of course, having a 2:1 advantage in sales is HUGE if we're talking BluRay/HD, but I'm sure it's meaningless in consoles....

| | | the coolness factor is wearing off from the innovative controller scheme, and people are realizing the lack of AAA games for the Wii. 360 and PS3 is still the best buy imo for now, unless Wii comes out with more adult games because a lot of adults DID buy a Wii and they will want adult-type games.

| completely different market. serious (hardcore) gamers won't bother with the Wii - that's why it doesn't get much love here.
However, there are plenty of non-hardcore gamers that like to play Wii tennis, bowling, and even harder titles like Resident Evil, which is a top-seller on Wii.
With Wii sports and their new 'wiiBoard' coming out, I think Nintendo will do fine.

Craig, I'm told by lesser gamers I work with, that friends of THERES, who I also consider "lesser" knowledgeable gamers have found the Wii in the weeee early mornings when visiting one of those catchall department store/grocery store, like a SuperWalmart (In columbus, we also have Meijer, which is where they found the Wii). I think we're just missing the shipment, as they're going like hotcakes, probably before nine in the morning.
so basically, we're getting pwned by people who have never visited a game site, never read a gaming mag, and probably don't know what an N64 is.
I'm sort of sad now.
If I can just figure out the shipping patterns, and convince my wife to let me stake out the Meijer parking lot all night...

| | | This was bound to happen due to the fact that most people in Japan probably already now own a wii. People arent going to start buying more than one!

| | | Interesting! - and I have to agree with Mex1cola as well - I wouldn't doubt that the people that buying a PS3 already have a wii... It's Japan after all.
