AMD cuts 10% of workforce

Not a big surprise, as AMD is laying off roughly 10% of it's workers, and lowered the forecast for the first quarter of 2008.

But not all is bad - 2008 is looking a little better with the new 780g chipset - I know most of the media-center guys are looking at this as the first solution for a non-dedicated graphics solution.

Just don't hold your breath...

thats shitty news no matter how you slice it...AMD was (and could still be) a good thing for the industry. As much as I love Intel's latest work, they need someone at their heels or occasionally kicking their asses for us to continue getting awesome products industry-wide.

I'm not so sure I would count AMD out yet. Nothing like getting kicked around A bit to get a company back on track. I was out looking at tv's last weekend and noticed two things (you guys prob. already knew this) but there were a lot of LCD tv's with ATI stickers on them and it's nearly impossible to get a CRT TV anymore. so who knows what the non gamer market holds for AMD/ATI. The really sad or maybe good part is on both fronts is they really are not that far behind.

I think AMD will have an up year for the reasons stated. You have to realize most people don't care about benchmarking, and a 'quadcore' is a 'quadcore' to them. Cheaper is going to mean sales.

i agree coffee, cheaper = sales, and nvidia knows this, and showed it in the 9600. and apparently the 3650's that you can get for ~100 bux are actually pretty decent. are they planning anything mor ein the 3 series or will the next release be the 4 series?

there are a lot of new things out there sporting the ATi stickers, it's just that it's not gaming stuff so a lot of us might not notice. I just don't want them to die out for the most part.
