Mass Effect for PC goes all security-crazy

According to Wired, the PC version of Mass Effect will have multiple security layers, including SecuRom (see: Bioshock activation fun) and by dialing back to home base to check your CD key every 5 to 10 days.

sad state of affairs that they have to take these measures. still, whatever it takes to get good console titles to PC (I can't believe we're at this point!) is ok with me.

I could care less about copy protection. It's going to be stripped and cracked within a day of release, anyway.

I'm pretty sure I use some form of no-dvd crack with every game I purchase [that's not on Steam].

I would hope not in its current state. The new 10-day security check is ludicrous. I just hope Bioware realizes their mistake in time and releases this on Steam instead of their ridiculous copy-protection mania. They're going to lose a good number of people over this, especially people who play primarily/exclusively offline. (Yes, I hear such people do really exist.)

I have steam connected always. No problems for me. Im not gonna buy it anyway since i already beat it.

i felt mass effect was rather short and i didnt really feel compelled to give it a a second play through as another class or with different dialogue choices. but thats just me

I thought it was pretty short too for an RPG. Even after doing 95% of the side quests...
