| | | Study says gamers spend $30k for hobby From 18-49, you (the gamer) will spend $30,000 on games, averaging 15 games per year at $765, plus hardware for gaming.
You'll also spend 6-10 hours per week playing online with friends (okay, they got us with that one).
Other than Duke, I find this hard to believe. I buy games at a very slow pace, easily less than once a month. 1up

: 8 th | | | Yeah 15 games a year is a stretch...I probably fall inthe 6-10 games a year with many of those being traded in on new purchases so its not new money being thrown at every game. I'd still give my left nut for every dime I spent on pc or console games over the last 35 years though.

| | | That's over a 31 year period...
I mean, If you look at some of us older guys... We can afford to drop at least a couple thousand on our desktops and even more on our Monitors/TV's, Keyboards, Mice, Headsets, Joysticks, etc...
Then there's my internet... I pay extra to have the very best... The fastest available to me... I would not do so if not for the patches, updates, and free games i download...
I don't NEED high speed internet, Really i could get away with ADSL which is like $15/mo in my area...
And then there are upgrades, maybe I'm the only one that is constantly upgrading my PC... I dunno, I would say over the last 10 years alone if i were only to look at my PC upgrades & hardware for my PC I've probably spent an easy $12k... Over 10 years that's not really much money and that doesn't include my games or internet...
Though its true, I probably only buy a few games a year, It still adds up...
Anyways the point is, I believe those numbers are inaccurate... I believe that they are too low... That or I am completely bat-shit crazy...
You know... My $12k is probably nothing compared to what some of the other guys on SR have spent in the last 10 years...
Note: I didn't go back more than 10 years, because back then I didn't really play video games...

for example, i havent upgraded my computer, which plays every game i throw at it except for Crysis perfeclty fine...
PS3 fames, the last three i bought was MGS4, GTA4 and Commended... thats $180 in 2008.... |

| | | Just in the past ten years, I've spent upwards of $20,000 on computer hardware alone in the form of eight laptops and desktops and upgrades. Haven't spent much on games though, I only buy 5-10 games a year but that's still $250-500 a year.
Also consider that my dsl costs $40 a month, it adds up quick...
I do think it's strange though that a lot of people will pay $4000 for a computer, then pirate $30 games because they're too expensive...
