: 70 th | | | Yeah basically I read an article where it sums up what has to happen.
1. Consoles must have a parental lockout feature by 2010
2. Games sold at retail must have a rating displayed.
3. And a study will be conducted on video games vs children vs violence.
The problem is one and two have been in effect for several years now (parental lockout being a bit behind the ESRB), and the third has been done countless times with the same result (games don't cause violence.)

| | | So these people don't do any research whatsoever before they make up dumb laws do they? I assumed they would at least pay an intern to do a google search or something.

| | | You know, I don't see this as such a big deal except for that study that is going to be conducted.
For the most part, i notice parents without a clue buying kids games that the kid asked for. The parent doesn't know, at least usually. I also wouldn't mind having one or two less blathering idiots in games (you don't have to be young to qualify for this, but it is usually them). UCHCHCHHCHC GARBLE GARBLE BLURGH. KIDS FREAKING PISS ME OFF!

| NY doesn't control Sony/MS/Nintendo, and their demand that all consoles have a parental lock is idiotic.
Game ratings don't solve anything. They are useful for responsible parents, but it won't affect young kids online.
The study is a waste of time and money. It's been done, there is simply no way to tell if they affect kids any more than parents, movies, television, or the internet.

: 78 th | | | i've learned to just hate other people's kids, but it all goes back to the parents as coffee said. when i see a kid misbehaving in public, there's usually a fat parent nearby on a cell phone who has no concept of public decency and social manners.
the same applies to video games. dont want them playing games? then just make retail stores actually enforce the ratings system, and get parents involved in what's going on in their kids lives. |

| | | For the billionth time it's not the kids it's the parents! Games and TV shouldn't matter either cause I grew up on Doom, Heretic, and Shadow Warrior. Aliens, Predator, and the like and I'm not a freakin psychopath. Even though my avatar is pointing a gun at the screen.
