: 78 th | | | Valve Admits They're For Sale, At The Right Price In a comment to Gamasutra recently, Valve big-wig Doug Lombardi expressed his openness to discussing selling the company that has brought us just about every cool game there is in the last decade, under the right circumstances (read: for the tallest pile of money). Quote:
If anyone is interested in acquiring Valve, VP Doug Lombardi is "happy to have that conversation," he told Gamasutra in a recent interview.
"By the same token, the company's doing pretty well, and we're really happy with what we're doing," he added.
"So we'll see. I mean, anything is possible."
| He also goes on to praise the upcoming Left 4 Dead publisher, EA Games, as a pretty good group of folks: Quote: |
"And we set up the deal so that it turned out that if EA was this evil empire, that it wasn't going to last forever," Lombardi said. "But it's turned out that all those scary stories - which, you know, maybe some of them were true, and maybe some of them are history; I don't know - haven't appeared to us; we haven't seen the boogeyman."
| Look, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that there's about three game companies out there that could afford to buy Valve. You've got EA Games, Blizzard/Vivendi and Microsoft. The fact that they're saying all of this is going to put their name on the acquisition charts of all three of those industry behemoths...believe it. |

| | | I don't think he's saying "Hey, guys, we're for sale, come buy us." I think it's more along the lines of "If anyone approaches us about buying us, we'll talk and see how things go." Saying they're for sale is like saying they're up on the market and trying to be bought.

: 78 th | | | dope, that's essentially what he just said with that statement. that's posturing if there ever was such a thing. of course they're not going to come out and say they're for sale, that would lower the price since it would seem that they're in a hurry to close such a deal. In this case, he's said that they're NOT opposed to selling...in the business world, that screams WE ARE FOR SALE FOR THE RIGHT PRICE BITCHESSSS :-0 |

| I wholly agree with Craig, these comments are for the sole purpose of selling the business. My only contention is if things are so hunky dory at valve why even broach the subject? Unless the guys there have had enough and just want the gazillion dollar payday and disappear to some small island in the pacific.

Ya, this is posturing. Watch Microsoft snap this shit up... bet me. Hell, Gabe Newell worked at MS for a while. He is good friends with Bill Gates to this day. |

: 78 th | | | the future earning potential of Valve's catalog is insane... even if they never come up with another new property, they're a freaking money fountain. | | |
