Delta Airlines embraces wireless internet

Well, not like they'd embrace wired internet.

But Delta is the first airline to offer wireless internet (in some places, as soon as next month) for domestic flights.

They're doing it with huge antennas on mountaintops across the nation. I have no idea how good it will be, or how fast.

Naturally, it'll cost you. $9.95 for a 3 hour flight or less, and $12.95 for over 3 hours. Service provided by Aircell.

Expect more airlines to join in to compete.

I would expect a MONSTER internet filter, so Joe Businessman isn't watching... say the AVN channel... while sitting next to little Bobby Sue. Or Bobby.

Still no cell phones, but what about Skype? Are you going to run uTorrent on the plane? How about a monthly plan for business travelers? How fast could it be? Lots of questions...

That's very interesting! I'm sure there will be many areas still that will have black out zones with no signal. Something to look forward to!

ya I was reading about the two technologies out there for this. They're both actually going to be pretty slow if a lot of people sign up for the in-flight service. Still, it's cool to see them embracing wifi on planes. I assume speeds will catch up in time

Yeah, why not just use satellite internet...I see commercials for that shit all the time. I also read way way back about a company wanting to install antennas on the inside of planes and something else as well just to make sure.

I would stream real time "Mile High Club" videos.
