Things game-makers do that piss us off

There have been many a time when I purchased a game with great production values: Graphics, creativity, voice acting, story, gameplay. Yet there is always something wrong that can keep it from getting a high personal score. My beef? When they spend years and tons of dough making a near perfect game, then go and do something stupid and half arse like not putting a decent save feature in. I like saving my game whenever and whereever I want. I don't like having to replay levels because the phone rang or I did't have enough time to finish it before work or whatever. I especially hate when they make games where you have to take death defying jumps where you keep falling to your death and they put those jumps at the end of a 30 minute level with no save feature. Then you have to repeat through the entire level, get to the jump, only to die again and curse the gamers for not putting a save whenever you want feature in so that you could save just before the jump. That is my biggest beef with some games. No decent save feature. What's yours?

 <--This turns me on. Is that wrong?

I hate: we have a new, innovative feature. The scary meter. If you character gets scared, his vision blurs and he loses control of his walking, shooting, etc. Dude, that's not fun, it's just annoying.

Also, enough with the super special spec ops/black ops/elite/tactical special forces soldiers as main character or as bad guys aready!!

My biggest beef - or really two beefs - is with game-makers is in the mmorpg genre. Every game-maker wants an Everquest-level success and I've seem some great graphic engines come down the road but rarely is the game well-developed when it goes gold[retail]. Too often there is simply not enough content to keep gamers interested - and all too often, game developers cave in to the complaints of gamers and radically change(nerf) classes because of some perceived imbalance.

Games where there is little to do (Eve/CoH) don't hold my attention long and games where the rules are constantly changing (EQ/DAoC/SWG) frustrate more then they entertain.

I got no sympathy for online-only game players. Anyone eager enough to pay a monthly bill to play a game they won't be able to pop in their old computer and enjoy (let alone use) 10 years from now deserves to get shafted. I guess you can count online-only games as one of the things game makers do that piss me off. Espescially when it encroaches upon single-player lovers. Like when multiplay fans petition developers to "drop single player" from their upcoming game because "nobody plays single player anymore".

p.s. That's just my personal opinion. One man's trash is another man's gold.
No offense intended.

No offense taken. I'm going back to single-player gaming. Need to find a couple decent titles... downloaded the Thief Demo and it's pretty fun and runs well on my laptop. Will take suggestions too in the adventure/RPG genre.

my biggest beef with SinglePlayer games is a Short Story Line.

for a prime example look at the length of the story in the original Deus Ex and now Compare it to the length of Deus Ex: Invisible War.

now my second beef is with online players in FPS games.

IF your playing on a team or in coopertive (Serious Sam Series) why on earth would you intentionally TK your team mates, and then continue to do it.

My beef is ports. Don't port the console version to the PC, instead port the PC version to the console.

Most problems such as crappy save, low textures, and short lvls are the result of devs making the game easy to port.

I have a PC that will run with high res textures, so give them to me.

I miss the days of PC only gaming.

I have to agree.... i cant imagine my self payin $50 or so for an on line game and then turing around and paying 10+ dollars a month to PLAY a GAME that I bought(50$) to play with in the beginning. 1 FEE = 1 product = Unlimited gaming... no monthly pay BS.

I agree totallly... we pay much more for our systems then those w/consols... we should get the latest and greatest since we can handle it in most cases. Then later if the game is popular or whatever downgrade it so it will run good on consols.
