PSP Owners thread

Might as well start one. I got mine the first week it came out here in Japan but I got stuck with the stupid Value pack. I got Vampire Hunters and Ridge Racers. Originally I didnt want Ridge Racers and only Vampire Hunters....heh good thing I had an extra 5000 Yen. Vampire Hunters gets boring, FAST. Ridce Racers on the other hand has high replayability.

PSP Pro's:

-Excellent Screen
-Well Built
-Excellent Performance

PSP Con's

-Value Pack is a waste
-Vampire Hunters gets repetative
-Screen gets dirty easy

(Stupid me I didnt put this in the gaming thread, Enderet, can I get a move?)

So why do you say that the value pack is a waste?

Also, have you bought a case for it? If so, which one? Any other accesories?

I would say aside from the case/strap, the value pack is a waste. I don't use the remote (maybe when i have a 2gb mem stick for mp3s) and the headphones were crap. I've got a 512mb stick so the 32mb is in my kid's waterproof camera. If you are going to get a big mem stick and can't use in-ear headphones (cheap ones) don't get the "Value" pack.
Especially if you're getting the U.S. model. There will be so many better choices for accessories when the U.S. model comes out. Go with one of those. (Nyko power case, your own headphones, 512MB duo for ~$65)

Now, my $.02 on the PSP

Pro's:
Powerfull
Sleep mode
Elegant
ALL of the features (we already know)
People stopping on the street asking "What's that" or just staring and pointing.
Actually wanting to go somewhere and wait (Bank, ATM, any Q, or wait for my wife)
so I can play it! "It's O.K. honey, i'll wait in front of the office and you can just come by" or "Sure, let's go shopping for sewing machines!"

Con's:
Screen gets greasy
Like (most) all LCDs, worthless in sunlight
Not enough games yet.
Not enough others w/ one to multiplay.
Scared of dropping it (so the strap is actually not bad also)

I picked up the headphones because the remote that comes with it is the only one that works on the PSP (so far at least). I also picked up the Sony PSP case because the others that are out at the moment look kinda bad and bulky. I like how it is more of a sleeve.

Intec has started selling accesories for the PSP, but none of them look good, except for maybe this one cradle-like thing, to charge the PSP. But even then, I dont think that is a must have item.

Since I still dont have the PSP with me, I cant really comment on the Pros and Cons of the system, but I will do so once I recieve it.

Yeah, the thing about the remote is that it looks REALLY good in pictures and when you first see it. But once you start holding it and actually using it, it feels so cheap and not worth the money.

The sleeve is "okay" I guess.

The card isnt bad for saving games, but for everything else it doesnt do the job.

I wouldnt recommend the value pack for anyone.

I skipped on the 32mb duo because its not enough for music or movies. The 512 should be enough for me, at least until prices on them go down.

BTW: Is darkstalkers ALL japanese?

question: you said you encoded stuff into MP4 already for the PSP. Did you a do a full movie? and how big file wise is it? Cause i wanna look into getting a produo but not sure if i should splurge for a gig or just 512.

I was just watching Alias season 4 episodes 1&2 on my PSP from my 512MB produo. It's about 270MB at good quality. (QVGA, 384kbps 64kbit audio) or 480MB at great quality (QVGA, 768kbps, 128kbit audio) The thing is, when i watch either version on the PSP, they pretty much look the same. I think the quality of the source is really what matters. Also, I'd like to add one thing to the Cons...the LCD lag. Man, it's really getting annoying when watching movies. I HATE IT. I pray they can fix it in firmware, but i fear it's a hardware problem. It's probably the cheap lcd panel >16ms response time for sure.

U haven't? I thought everyone knew about that??

http://psp.ign.com/articles/572/572548p1.html

"Despite all our praise, we have had a few issues with the system so far. The PSP has awesome visual clarity, but we have noticed some image bleeding problems with the color red and vertical chopping of fast-moving images. This was notable in the Rally X mini game for Ridge Racers, and becomes even more clear in the faster sequences from the UMD movie clips. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in software."
That's from IGN the day of Japanese release.
