Not having to do with the truth of global warming caused by humans or not - just the truth of the government maintaining a hold over its citizens through their fear of...whatever. anything.
The Cold War and nuclear Russia. The environmental catastrophe. Terrorism. Nuclear Iran. Poison Dog food. Bad spinach.
Anything to keep your ass at home and worried and not realizing you are, in fact, paying 40% of your wages in eventual taxes to an overwhelming government and getting nothing in return.

I think we probably should have treated Saddam like we did Khomeini or Gadhafi, drop an Operation El Dorado Canyon on their asses and bomb them and their families into oblivion, negating their effect on the world.
A dedicated force in Afghanistan, then, could have been an effective deterrent to the Taliban there, while a hardcore, intense intelligence search for Osama with other world intel organizations could have been accomplished without the whole Iraqi debacle.
But don't elect me President or anything...
