Good cause, I've done stuff like this before. It just kills my CPU. I wonder if there is a way to control how intense it is.

There is, just look at the settings. For those of us with multi-core CPU's (even better for the Quad Core folks) you can set it to one core.

I run F@H on my girlfriends PC 24/7, and on mine every night. I'd run it on my GPU but it makes it sequel for some reason.

If you leave your PC on all the time and your cpu/gpu are just idling, you have no reason to not be folding for a cure!

Yep. I've been running F@H for about 7 years now. I've not seen too much progress come out of it yet, but it's a necessary thing and when something major is discovered, I'd have like to have been a part of it.

It doesn't really use CPU (that you want to use) at all because it runs at a very low priority. When you start up a game or something, it will also pretty much just pause it's folding. If you have a NVIDIA card, although I haven't verified what models it supports, you could also run it on your GPU. This way, when you're not playing a game and just doing your everyday tasks on your computer, nothing will interfere with the CPU usage.

If it's CUDA, it will run on any graphics card 8 series and up.

I used to do SETI@Home and some Folding@Home, but haven't done so in several years, perhaps I should donate my idle time again.

Well, I got started on using F@H the moment it came out because my dad has cancer. So I figured any idle CPU time that I could dedicate to possibly finding a cure would be an awesome contribution. It's mainly the reason I use it.

This may be just for its own users, but those people sharing files have also probably shared the files to people in America, as well. Which means if you do any sort of piracy (and you never should), then you never know if they might pass off their findings to the US.

Dope, I'm running it on the mac, and my processors go up to 98/99% as soon as I run the program. My computer gets very loud and very hot. I was wondering if you know a way of limiting it while I am using the computer, and a way I can jack it back up during idle time?

Open the Activity Monitor and change the priority of it. I forget what it's called since I'm not at my mac. Just find the process for F@H in the list and right-click it. You should see some options there. It's still going to use the idle time, though. If you're not using the processor, it will be.

there are a few processes running (4 called FahCore_a1.exe) with the same name. I can't right click on anything in the Activity Monitor.

I'll take a look later and see where it was at exactly.
