| | | I'm probably fooked on a lot of this stuff. But I guess start sooner than later.
I am dumb cause I do this to my own car, I know it, which makes me hate it even more.

I used to change the oil in my car myself, but I started taking it to the dealer and paying them $15. They do it quick, they use good oil, and they wash my car for me.
Also, depending on the age of your car, the amount of wear on your engine, your driving style, changing the oil may need to be done more regularly.

| | | Also, to elaborate on point 6, they left out what you should be doing on a cold start. The best way to warm your car up in the winter, or cold weather in general, is to just start it and drive normally. This will gradually bring all components up to temperature.

Not so today. | Even with synthetic oils and quality oil filters it is still recommended by ASME to change your oil filter every 5,000 miles and change the oil at 7,500 miles depending on driving conditions and driving habits.

| | | i change mine at about 6,000 miles or so, depending on when I feel the call to Jiffy Lube.
I mean, when I do it myself during long hours I spend in the garage working on my own car like a man.

Also, depending on the age of your car, the amount of wear on your engine, your driving style, changing the oil may need to be done more regularly. | Of course oil changes must to be completed, just not at the 3k and 5k intervals we are accustomed to being told are required. People still perpetuate these intervals because that is what we have been doing for the better half of a century and at one time were absolutely needed. For reasons I already stated these intervals are no longer relevant to most modern engines; there are modern engines such as the Mazda rotary engine that do require more frequent changes because they literally burn oil by design.
I have seen oil analysis reports for Ford modular V8s with hundreds of thousands of miles that are on 17k intervals with full synthetics and are as good as new. I have seen in person several of these engines broke down and the cylinder walls are literally “factory new” looking. I have been doing 10k intervals on my engines with full synthetic oils since the late 1990s. I could probably go longer if I wanted to push it but I actually like changing my own oil.
Edit: Anyway, this topic has been covered into oblivion by countless auto forums and even dedicated oil web sites. Obviously the people who want to keep there 3k and 5k changes are going to do so despite lots of research being done over the years. I think most people do this for piece of mind and if it makes you feel good then by all means keep doing it.
