After work this evening while on my way to pick my son up from daycare a dumb woman in a Chevy Suburban 2500 rammed into the front, right quarter of my Ford Explorer.
I was making a left turn and had the green. I saw the lady across the intersection waiting to turn right. As I'm about 3/4 through the turn she just decides to go and plows right into me. Later she told the responding State Trooper that I "Came out of nowhere!" I believe her too, because she was yapping on her phone and looking the other way when she hit me! If she would have been paying attention she would have seen me. She also told the Trooper I ran the light.
Lucky for me this occurred at a brand new intersection with traffic cameras. FHP wrote the women a big fat ticket for improper right turn and cited her for causing the accident. I'm not hurt, the truck is another story. It drove fine all the way home and idled with the AC on the entire 2 hours I waited for FHP so mechanically things seem ok but I'll have to dig in tomorrow and see. From the outside it's clear I'll need a new right front fender, wheel & tire, front bumper & cover, head lamp, corner lamp, hood and everything that goes with that.
If I had been in some econobox fuel sipper I'm sure I'd be posting from a hospital bed right now. Her truck weighs in a 5,800 pounds and she was traveling roughly 40 mph. She hit me hard enough to toss my Explorer (weighing in at 4,600 lbs) out of my lane and into the concrete median which isn't an easy thing to do.
After I got home I was looking over the police report and noticed the woman's address; she lives one street down from me.
