Live Server Status StrafeRight Ventrilo Ventrilo Rules/Guidelines
The StrafeRight Community Ventrilo server follows the same general policies that we enforce on all of our public game servers in regards to in-game VoIP. No racism, personal attacks or all around asshattery is allowed. Please treat everyone with respect, and let us (sR administrators) know immediately when anyone is causing a disturbance. We understand that gaming can often be frustrating, so the occasional expletive will slip out every now and then, but do not make a habit of using language that would get you punched in the face if you spoke it in a public area. The best analogy is of your favorite bar/restaurant, feel free to have fun, act the way you want and say what's on your mind, just remember that you're in an open environment, so please choose the appropriate language for such a venue.
Ventrilo Download/Installation Instructions - Download the Windows i386 - 32bit Ventrilo client from Ventrilo - Download and install the program on your computer.
- Launch Ventrilo, and click on "Setup".
- Select the appropriate output and input devices from the drop-down menu, and adjust the volume as necessary (see the system sound control panels). The use of a "Push-To-Talk Hotkey" is highly recommended (not that we don't like to hear you breathing or anything). To test your settings, select an audio codec and format, and click on "Test" in the lower left corner of the "Voice" tab.
- Once you've finished setting up your hardware, click on the "->" to the right of the "User Name" drop-down menu to enter your personal configuration.
- IMPORTANT: please enter something simple in the "Phonetic" field, users with long phonetic names will be asked to change them (those who don't are subject to kick/ban).
- Now click on the "->" to the right of the "Server" drop-down menu.
- Create a new server profile, and enter "straferight.nationvoice.com" in the "Hostname or IP" box, and "3784" as the "Port number".
- Click "Connect" in the main Ventrilo window and you should join the server.
The Ventrilo server is one of the best features of strafeRight.com, it allows us all to communicate easily and in a very high quality manner. Please keep in mind though that most people are there to play a game, so the ability to hear in-game sounds is paramount...going on and on about your Aunt Edna's amazing fruitcake while someone is trying to hear footsteps around a corner isn't the best thing to do. If you're new to dedicated voip (especially when gaming), please take the time to listen to what others are doing, how they act in the server, and what the general rules of etiquette and common practice are.
