Half Life Question :

I like playing Team Fortress Classic, and Half Life multiplayer. I tried to set up a LAN game with my router, and both computers saw each other in the servers list, but i cant join my desktop when on my laptop and vice versa. I called technical support for my router, and they showed me how to make the router act like a hub instead of router, but it still doesnt work. My question is, I cant play a LAN game with the two computers having the same product code? They dont go online to play, so how could steam check if its the same code? Im trying to play via the game multiplayer option not steam. At school, we had this game on 20 computers, im sure as hell we didnt have 20 codes. What am i doing wrong. I set a static ip for both computers, and tried to connect, but it says connection failed :could not connect.

As far as I know, you won't be able to play from both computers using the same STEAM ID. When you connect to you other computer, the game will see that the connecting Steam ID is the same as its, and wont allow it.

yes, thats what i guessed. So thats why iam trying it offline via the games multiplayer lan option, and not steam. i open TFC and then go to multiplayer and then lan games, and they see each other, but cant join.

ok, i tried Half life multiplayer, and it let me through, i actually saw the other player in the game, but after 5 seconds i got " NetsendPacket_Error:Wsaeintr" And i read this is caused by winsock? It shut my game down and topk me to my desktop I still cant connect in Team fortress though. Hum, boggling. Oh, btw, anytime i connect to a wireless network and want to play on steam, i get that same error. must be my wirelass adapter config.

yeah, these forums are kinda slow.

You could just uninstall Half Life, and reinstall it not associating it with steam (if you have an older copy) - that will work. Me and my brother do this with Sven Co-op all the time.
