Post Application

Hello Jagged Legion,
I am interested in joining an active supergroup focused mostly on end game content on Pinnacle. I have played for almost five years on Pinnacle. I have been in only one hero SG and one villain SG. The hero SG named The Last Division of Heroic Escalation was the one I founded when I first got to level 10. The villain SG was WWE in which I joined the last week of CoV beta. I was leader rank in both groups at one point or another.
Most of my toons are level 50 and I tend to mostly play controllers or scrappers. I have six of each controllers, scrappers, and tankers. With the remaining toons being a blaster, defender, brute, and corruptor. A bunch others at various levels.
I do have ventrilo but I will need help getting it to work on an iMac. I can’t get the settings correct so the speakers and mic work. My global is @shnax and I am over 18. I am 28 years old. I usually play from 5PM-11PM central timezone on weekdays and any time on weekends.
Anything else just ask, hope to team up with you all soon!

Re: Application

Welcome to the boards. This are kind of quite these days with the holidays and everyone waiting for Going Rogue. There are a few of us still running around in game so I will send you a tell this weekend to discuss things.

Yeah, there isn't no one playing right now. Not sure if that will last too much longer, but its been that way for the past 3 months. We may have 1-2 people log in and play during the week. But thats about it.

Just wanted to give you fair warning.

I never thought I would see a WWE member want to join JL Wow! Must be a spy of some sorts....lol j/k

Re: Application

Hey French, I'm doing good and back to playing CoH more. I was playing a lot of World in Conflict for a while. It was a good change of pace to do an intense RTS. You playing any other games at the moment?

Ummm.... the game of life?

Nothing on the PC. Hooked on the Guitar Hero series on the PS3 as it is. I was doing a fair bit of writing the first year I took off from CoH, but even that has stagnated lately. I may take a peak at Star Wars when it comes out, not sure if I'll return to the land of MMOs.

Re: Application

I think I found the solution with Macs using vent. Here's the error I receive when I login to the server:

"Failed to get encoder for specified Codec.

This client platform supports only the Speex codec. The server and/or channel is configured to use the ‘GSM 6.10’ codec."

To fix this problem the server admin would have to make a setting change:

"2) Codec's and You; a brief explanation
Voice communication over the internet is done using codec's (coder/decoder). You computer samples your voice, codes it, sends to to the listener, whose computer decodes it so they can hear you. There are many codecs but the ones in question here are GSM and Speex, and Ventrilo supports both.

They are both fairly equal in quality, however GSM is a proprietary codec that developers must pay a fee to use. Speex on the other hand is open-source and available to anyone who wants to use it.

Years ago, Apple opted to not include the GSM codec in their operating system, and because they didn't, GSM is not available on the Mac. However, Speex is so in order for your Mac to work with Vent, it needs to talk to a server that is set up to use the Speex codec. (it sounds limiting, but isn't read on)

The folks at Flagship, who make Ventrilo made a brilliant programming move by making the Ventrilo client auto-adjust depending on what the server settings are; so if you have a server that is set to GSM, and it is then changed to Speex, all of the clients will change themselves automatically, and the user never knows it happened.

So, to get your Macintosh Client working, the server you connect to will need to be set to Speex. If it isn't set to that already, contact whoever administers the Ventrilo server and have them make the change - it will literally take them about 30 seconds.

On a personal note, we have seen dozens of guilds/vent users change over to Speex and the feedback we get is that not only is the sound quality better, it also better stability - your mileage may vary."

Re: Application

I use the straferight side of Vent, and it works fine on my Mac. I think Craig and some others do as well. It's probably something on your side. Perhaps try a reinstall and see how things go. I had little to no trouble setting mine up initially.
